-- I apologise if my spelling and shiz is bad, I can't be bothered opening my WORD.

Draco Malfoy was drowning. Drowning in free range, and authority and he absolutely loved it. He was able to back mouth teacher without getting a detention because he simply wore a badge with words on it and he was able to mess with Potter without any consequences what-so-ever. Umbridge maybe running Hogwarts to the ground but she sure had the right ideas. He may not like the pink toad but he would do anything to keep her at Hogwarts for the rest of his schooling years or at least this year, having that halfbreed fired was the first step, next was Dumbledore and he couldn't wait for the old coots face to be all over the paper with the headline, 'Albus Dumbldore FIRED'.

It may only be Spring but it sure as hell felt like summer already. The boy was sitting by himself near lake, with his lackeys no where insight. The other members of the Inquisitorial Squad were either harrasing a gryffindor or spying on Potter. Draco though had the privilige of being able to bunk Transfiguration and have a bit of R&R. So the handsome ferret boy sat with his black school pants rolled up to his knees and his white shirt unbuttoned half way down. The gentle breeze was playing with his light blonde locks, like his mother used to thread her fingers through his hair as a child. Leaning back onto his elbows the Slytherin dipped his toes into the refreshing lake water before he closed his eyes against the sun. Draco Malfoy was officailly on cloud nine.

"Dammit to hell, Daphne. Can't you just give it back?"
A loud crash came from the SLytheirn commonroom as a young girl with flame red hair thundered up the stairs, her usually calm and collected face set to an annoyed grimace. It sucked being the youngest, really. It did. All her life, Astoria had been the sole publications of bullying from her older much prettier sister. She was blamed for being a black sheep, ugly hair, ugly face and ugly eyes, underweight and even more stupid than a cow. Daphne was pretty and blonde and smart and everything her parents had wanted. She was everything and she wanted more. Such as Astoria's annoyance.

"I swear, give me back my diary!" She screamed at the older girl, and several Slytherins jotted out of their dorms to watch the commotion. Faces of jittering teens spiraled around the young girl like lilypads in a pond. She could feel her courage drain by lightly as she witnessed her sister from atop the staircase smirk and throw an insult at her sister before flouncing into the 5th year dormitory.

The show was over, and students alike mooched back to their normal activity, leaving the auburn by the marble staircase, her face red with rage and humiliation. She hated sibling fights in public. And well, fuck this. Daphne could have her diary, Astoria already knew where the older girls lacy underwear had been kept. A little trip to daddys office with a basket of those would get her grounded for a while. But for now, the girl had to calm down.

The lake was Astoria's favourite place, for it as quiet and tranquil and being around water seemed to comfort the girl to a certain edge. The girl ventured outside, the light breeze dancing with her red curls, settling them against her bare back. The girl was in a tank-top and a white skirt, knee-length and something her stupid rich mother had bought in paris. Honestly she hated it, but spies such as Daphne communicating that the youngest Greengrass was in ripped denim shorts and large t-shirts and cropped tops wasn't on Astoria's list.

The girl walked barefoot to the lake, standing against it, opposing it like a queen against the world. A large tree sat close to the lake, and it was Astoria's prime place for a bit of a deep and meaningful. But apparently it wasn't jsut for her, for a little blonde git leant against the old trunk, dozing off. Snorting lightly, Astoria walked closer to the edge of the lake, before sitting down and dipping her pale feet in. Glancing back at the teenager, she sighed lightly.

"Caught in the act, Malfoy." she remarked, kicking slowly.

You know how when your so tired, you sometimes fall alseep but can still hear your surrondiings, well thats how Draco was now, not quite asleep bur asleep enough to snoring slightly. Snoring was one of his fathers traits that Draco unfortunately got from him, not many people knew he snored as he normally put a silencing charm on his bed chambers as, he hated people hear him snore and most of all, Goyle sleep talked, well sleep yelled.

Draco jolted, fully awake now before he snapped up straight. Turning towards his left, Draco scowled lightly opening his mouth to berate the unfortunate person who woke him before he noticed the flaming red hair and blue eyes his face relaxed slight and he shook his head in annoyance. "Did Daphne drive yo out already." he asked simply, ignoring the girls previous statement. Though it seemed Draco was closer than Daphne, most of that was true but to be honest Draco found the blonde immensly annoying, much like he found Pansy annoying. Draco found Astoria, rather interesting to say the least. She was defiantly the black sheep of the family, striking out on the Greengrasses blonde hair and grey eyes, and Astoria would say the looks as well, but Draco found the girl much prettyier than her sister. Yes Daphne was every guys wet dream, but Draco was any guy.

"What are you doing out of class Astoria." he asked, leaning against his elbows onces again.

The water rippled against her legs, forming cresent circles against the pale prominent and 'pure' skin. Astoria had always wondered how she was so different from a muggle. How Draco and Daphne and Theodore and Blaise and her parents were so different from Granger and Smith and Creevey. They were all human, and for one; no one could choose their family, as well as fate. Sometimes Tori had wondered if she was the unlucky one. Not that she could tell everyone. Her bright blue eyes matched the lake, and she could feel them sting from the empathy of unfairness and pressure. But she'd never cry in front of a Malfoy; she'd never cry about her heritage. Not if she wanted to be destroyed.

A little voice at the back of her head reminded her of the situation and she glanced over, looking up at the boy. The first time she had met him; she had been seven years young; him at eight. He was snooty with a pointed nose and the flattest hair ever. She didn't find him attractive at all; in fact. he was the opposite. She could remember hearing Daphne go on about his looks; and she had never understood why but now in the late spring light, he looked the slightest like a god.

"Yes well, she had a tendacy on doing that." Astoria muttered lightly, placing her hands by her side, feeling the textures of dirt, grass and wild flowers beneath her palms. "free period for me, plus like I ever turn up for class now. How about you?" Peering over her shoulders, she gazed at him, raising one thin eyebrow.

"Trust me I know." he said quitely, not even caring that Astoria might use what he just said against her sister, all the boy has to do was raise a perfectly plucked eyebrow and walk away, making the girl forget why she even confronted him in the first place, being Draco Malfoy had its perks. Astoria was probably the only person apart from his mother that he actually took the time to talk to. With his father he it was a whole different story, it wasn't that he hated the man, but since last yera his father had changed. His mother wouldn't tell him why, but Draco knew something went down during the tournament last year. The Slytherin wasn't one to dwell on things but when it came to his family, there was nothing more that he cared about than them.

Rolling to his side, the boy started to pick at the grass, reeling in the way the sun shone down on himself and Astoria. The girl hair seemed to become even more redder in the light, almost like a burning flame, it made Draco want to twirl a finger in a lone strand that was not tucked behind her ears like the rest. His hand moved, raised and twitched before he realised what he was doing. He slapped his hand back to the ground and coughed.

"You shouldn't be bunking." he said, before he frowned. "I mean its none of my business, but you shouldn't copy your sister." he finished. Frowning at his own words.

Shrugging lightly, he smiled, "Having Dumbeldore at your every beck and call has its perks." he said simply.

It definately was odd, because well... Draco Malfoy wasn't just a king, he wasn't the Sun King like Nott or Zabini or Cunningham, whom Astoria all got along with relitavely well. He was the Ice King and he wasn't giving up that title any time soon. With a reputation known to murder the hearts of any girl, Astoria had really expected him to waltz off back to reality or a new more isolated place. But no.

"She's been going on about how mother might betroth her to that Montague person. Trust me, she's only happy because he's rich, good at quidditch and shares the same last name as Romeo Montague from Shakespeare." Tori remarked at the boy, remembering the letter written two weeks ago and how Daphne was in her happiest mood for the first time in three months. The last time when she publically humiliated Astoria by throwing her into the ice cold Black Lake when winter had just come to a close.

A prep talk by Malfoy; she definately was lucky as ever. Pursing her lips lightly, she mentally sighed. She was anything but Daphne. Daphne was perfect. She was everything which was why mother had given in to a betrothal, because according to her Daffy was worth it honey, and maybe if you did something about your hair, and maybe a cheekbone spell; we'll get you a nice husband too. Astoria would never be daphne. But she wasn't going to slave away in school.

"I have a whole year until my exams." The girl paused for a minute, before opening her mouth cautiously. "And anyway, you can help me, right?" Her breath caught on edge, she surely had just signed her grave.

"Montagues a pompose wuss and has nothing better to do than get locked in a cabinet." he remarked, screwing his face up at the older Slytherins name. "They are a perfect couple." he joked, looking up at the girl with a twinkle in his grey eyes. "Don't worry about them, if it makes you feel any better, she be in a horrible marraige." he told her, knowing what Montagues father is like and how he treat his mother. The woman was always around at the Malfoys, crying, and carrying a black eye. "Is that why Daphne threw you in the lake?" he asked, remembering the day the soaked, sobbing girl ran through the common room when Draco was having a game of chess with Zabini.

"But really Astoria, you can achieve alot more than Daphne." In everything, he told her, resting his hand on hers briefly before he lifted it away, not before he squeezed it lightly.

"Granger would say thats clearly not enough time to learn everything in the text books." he said sarcastically. When she mentioned him helping her, he froze before he nodded shakily. "Of course."

"Montague is a stupid wuss and I'd hate of him to be my brother in law. I swear he's only into the marriage is because of her boobs." Astoria nodded, before stopping herself in her tracks. Was Malfoy really having a conversation on Daphne, more or less bitching about her? wasn't Malfoy her friend and well, also a jerk? He was actually being a nice little boy for once, and for a second; Astoria wondered what the hell he was on.

Images of ice around her, moving shapes and spiralling hair entered Astoria's mind and she nodded, shivering. It was horrible. I remember Dolohov briefly visiting me and giving me some butterbeer but other than that, nothing else happened and everyone just laughed and left me alone.

Warmth spread over her hand and she glanced down, raising an eyebrow. This was a first of Draco, and now she wondered if this snake really was nothing but darkness. She glanced up at him, smiling shyly. But she was still suspicious. She always had been.

Draco raised his eyebrows at Astoria, choice of words. 'Boobs' he thought. 'She did have nice boobs.' "Thank god I'm an only child, but don't worry I would have to have him as my brother-in-law too." he laughed. "But like I said, they will make a great couple, just think of all niece and nephews you'll be looking after." he joked, poking her shoulder.

"Dolohov came to see you?" he asked, face full of surprise. The empty headed man wasn't known for his kind gestures, not at all. When she mentioned no one came to visit her, he screwed his face up in shame, "I'm sorry I didn't come visit. If it makes any difference, I drilled Daphne for you." he told her, remember how went off at Daphne for being so damn immature, careless and to be greatful she has a sibling at all, even if she may loose that priivilge anytime soon.

When Astoria smiled at him he couldn't help but smile a genuine smile at her, liking the shyness on her face. It made her look so very cute. He knew the girl would remain suspicous of him, after all he didn't blame her one bit, he had a thing for treating everyone and everything like shit.

For a minute, the steadfast and prominent show of a git was visible for a second, with the 'thank god I'm an only child' ruling out his boasts. Astoria clicked her tongue knowingly, yet let it pass. She was rather dumb to think that she could fully turn the teen over. He was different now; yes. But he wasn't going to change overnight. His laugh sounded pleasant though. Like a summer bird after a long period of winter gloom. She knew that it wasn't practised on often, and she was lucky to sense a glimpse of a Malfoy at tranquil.

"Dolohov and I go way back. His older brothers and sisters torment him, even if he is 16. His dad is best friends with mine as well; so it's natural for him to seek out my wellbeing." Nodding lightly, the girl twindled her thumbs, her expression now relaxed and calm. She was surprised though; underneath. For Malfoy was apologizing. Apologizing, at her, when Daphne was a 'close' friend of his. Astounding, really.

"Dolohov's a git." he said simply. Ending the conversation about the stupid boy. Draco could remember the night when the boys father had come to his mansion for a 'visit', and all the boy could talk about was getting into Astoria's pants. The 'visit' had ended ubruptly, with the older Dolohov fixing the younger boys nose. Draco had been berated by his mother but all Lucius could do was smirk, which was a clear sign of slight proudness, of course the younger Dolohov wouldn't tell his father why he had ended up with Draco's fist connected with his nose as the Greengrasses were a rather well presented family.

"Hmmm." he mused, "Way back eh?" Draco looked at Astoria with a smirk, "So what hes like your friend then?" he asked, raising his slender eyebrows. "Seek out you wellbeing, sure." he muttered under his breath, snorting lightly. The older Slytherin looked down at the grass in his hand before he threw it into the girls lap. "Happy birthday." he joked.

Dolohov wasn't a git. Yes; he was perverted and said too many innapropriate jokes. Maybe he thought a bit too much about how he looked and he did flirt a little too casually; but he was friends with Astoria, no matter what happened. She could remember Daphne once attempting to woo Dolohov last summer whilst the Greengrass sisters and the Dolohov brothers lounged by the lake near Dolohov manor. She could remember Daphne attempting a little strip-tease which only endured in Warren Dolohov asking if she had stuffed her breasts. He was the only guy immune to Daphne's wrath.

Him and Draco that was.

"He's my friend." Astoria said cautiously, averting her gaze to the pond. it looked swimmable, the usually black liquid now a crystal blue, pebbles and little plantlife visable from under astoria's feet. the water was as clean and sparkling as ever and desirable to the girl. she missed those days as a younger girl, where swimming in your underwear was exceptable. Now it wasn't, nothing was anymore.

A shower of grass fell into her lap and the girl shot her head to glare at Malfoy. Fixing him with a glare, she suddenly smiled brightly, before dumping her 'birthday present' as well as another handful of dry grass on the boys platinum hair. Oh yeah, she went there.
